Washington – Tax Guidance Issued for New Businesses

SALT Report 1161 – The Washington Department of Revenue has issued a workbook for new businesses to provide guidance on the applicability of business and occupation (B&O) tax and retail sales and use tax.

The workbook was created to help businesses better understand Washington’s tax structure.  It is intended to provide a basic overview of the taxes that apply to various business activities in Washington State.

The guide provides an overview of the different B&O tax classifications, common deductions for B&O tax and sales and use tax, tax reporting and payment due dates, available tax incentives, the audit process, and the appeals process.  Additionally, the workbook has the forms, permits, and applications needed for new businesses.
