Indiana – Gasoline Prepayment Rate Increased

SALT Report 1200 – The Indiana Department of Revenue has released a notice regarding the state’s prepaid gasoline sales tax rate for 2012. The prepayment rate is calculated twice a year by the Department and is effective January 1 through June 30, and, July 1 through December 31.

The Department’s notice is for refiners, terminal operators, and qualified distributors who are registered with the Department and are required to collect prepayments of sales tax on gasoline.

The current prepayment rate of Indiana sales tax through December 31, 2011 is 15.1 cents per gallon.  The prepayment rate of gasoline sales tax beginning January 1, 2012 will increase to 17.2 cents per gallon.

All businesses that sell gasoline are required to register with the Department by filling out the Business Tax Application Form BT-1.
