Mississippi – Governor Opposes Tax Increases

SALT Report 1297 – Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour released his executive budget recommendations for fiscal year 2013.  Through revenues streams, responsible budgeting and controlled indebtedness, the Governor believes his proposal will balance the state’s budget within two-and-half-years and leave $241 million in reserve funds for his successor, without raising any taxes.

In order to do so, the Governor recommends increased funding for the Mississippi Department of Revenue to enable them to hire 20 new auditors and revenue agents in an effort to reclaim some of the estimated $260 million in liabilities owed to the state.
