Washington – Support of Main Street Fairness Act Adopted

SALT Report 1298 – A joint memorial that petitions Washington’s congressional delegation to join cosponsors of the Main Street Fairness Act has been adopted.  In addition, members of the Washington senate have urged the president to sign the legislation upon its passage by Congress.

If passed, the Main Street Fairness Act will grant states the authority to collect sales taxes from remote sellers regardless of nexus. The Washington Department of revenue estimates that this would generate more than $306 million for the Washington State General Fund and $176.5 million for local governments from 2013-2015.
