SALT Report 1351 – The Texas Comptroller of Accounts released their January 2012 webinar calendar. Taxpayers and practitioners are invited to participate in the upcoming sales tax webinars hosted by the Comptroller’s office.
Agricultural and Timber Exemptions
Beginning Jan. 1, 2012, House Bill 268 requires that a person must be registered with the Comptroller’s office and be issued a Texas Agriculture and Timber Registration Number before being eligible to claim an exemption from Texas sales and use tax on purchases of certain types of items used in the production of agriculture and timber products.  This session is designed specifically for farmers and ranchers (including custom harvesters and sprayers, field workers, etc.) who are engaged in the production of agricultural products for sale.
The sessions listed will provide guidance on the new registration requirement, as well as overviews of the agricultural and timber sales tax exemptions.
Exempt Organizations, Texas Sales Tax and Fundraisers
This presentation will provide an overview of Texas sales and use tax as it applies to sales and purchases made by Exempt Organizations. The presentation will focus on fundraising and explain when tax must be collected and who is responsible for reporting and remitting the tax to the state.
Participants must register in advance. Each session is limited to 1,000 participants. Calendars will be updated monthly.
