Kansas – State Closes Business for Failure to Pay Sales Tax

SALT Report 1428 – Agents from the Kansas Department of Revenue and the local Sheriff’s Department seized the assets of a business for failure to pay $63,037 in sales tax to the state.  The officers also seized all known bank accounts, on-site cash, business inventory and any personal property that belonged to the business owners.  The business was then sealed and shut down.  All assets will be sold at auction to pay the past due taxes.
This type of warrant execution takes place after all previous collection attempts, such as telephone calls, letters of legal action, tax liens, bank levies, and on-site till taps fail to bring taxpayers into compliance. The Revenue Department’s standard practice is to encourage delinquent taxpayers, who are not filing or paying their taxes, to voluntarily enter into a repayment agreement.
