Wisconsin – Exemptions for Converting Vegetable Oils and Animal Fats into Fuel

SALT Report 1459 – The Wisconsin Department of Revenue issued a news release that addresses the sales and use tax exemption available for sales of vegetable oil or animal fat that is to be converted into motor vehicle fuel.
An exemption from Wisconsin sales and use tax is provided for sales of vegetable oil or animal fat that will be converted by an individual into fuel and used in that individual’s personal vehicle. The exemption only applies to the first 1,000 gallons of oil purchased.
The exemption from does not apply to vegetable oil or animal fat that is converted into motor vehicle fuel by a business for resale or that will not be personally used by an individual.
To claim the exemption, taxpayers should use Form S-211 or Form S-211-SST.
