Missouri – Exemption for Certain Motor Vehicles

SALT Report 1616 – The Missouri General Assembly recently passed legislation that provides a sales tax exemption for certain motor vehicles. Effective August 28, 2012, motor vehicles in excess of 54,000 pounds and any trailer pulled by the motor vehicle that is used in the normal course of business to haul property and is commensurate with the motor vehicle’s registered weight are exempt from state sales taxes.

Additionally, the sales tax exemption applies to the materials, replacement parts, and equipment purchased for use directly on and for the repair and maintenance or manufacture of the vehicle.
