California – Top 500 Delinquent Taxpayers Now Face License Suspension

SALT Report 1737 – The California State Board of Equalization issued a warning for any taxpayer whose name appears on the Top 500 delinquent taxpayer list. These taxpayers may now lose their state-issued licenses under a new law intended to encourage tax delinquents to pay their debts.

The bill, AB 1424, gives state agencies the authority to suspend the occupational, professional, or driver’s licenses of any tax debtor that appears on the top 500 list. The bill also prohibits anyone on the list from entering into contracts for goods and services with any state agency.

In September the BOE provided the most recent Top 500 list to all state agencies. If your name is on the list you can avoid the suspension and added penalties by contacting the BOE and making arrangements to pay your debts.
