California – Taxpayers Can Seek Relief from Penalties Electronically

SALT Report 1864 – The California State Board of Equalization has announced that taxpayers can now apply for relief from penalties and payments through their new online system – eServices.

eServices allows taxpayers to submit online requests for:

  • Relief from penalties,
  • Relief from interest,
  • Relief from penalty and interest due to a disaster,
  • Relief from collection cost recovery fees,
  • Declarations of timely mailing, and
  • Extensions of time in which to file a tax/fee return

If you file your request using the eServices system you will receive an immediate acknowledgement and, in most cases, your request will be processed right away. Therefore, taxpayers will learn instantly if their request was granted, denied, or needs further review.
