The SCOP is a statewide program designed to increase sales tax compliance by ensuring that all businesses are properly registered and reporting their taxes and fees. The BOE’s intent is to visit every business in the state over time, particularly if a business sells taxable retail items. Registered retailers and service industry businesses will be visited to see if they hold the appropriate permits and licenses. If a business is found to be out of compliance they will be given instructions on how to register with the BOE and how to apply for all necessary licenses.
