California – Additional Retailers Will Be Visited by SCOP

SALT Report 2357 – The California State Board of Equalization announced that an additional 6,000 retailers have been sent letters notifying them that they will be visited by Statewide Compliance and Outreach Program team members. The letters have been sent to businesses in the following zip codes:

Galt – 95632

Lodi – 95240 & 95242

Ventura – 93001

The SCOP is a statewide program designed to increase sales tax compliance by ensuring that all businesses are registered and properly reporting their taxes and fees. The BOE’s intent is to visit every business in the state over time, particularly if a business sells taxable retail items. Registered retailers and service industry businesses will be visited to verify that they hold the appropriate permits and licenses. If a business is found to be out of compliance they will be given instructions on how to register with the BOE and how to apply for the necessary licenses.
