California – Certain Products No Longer Subject to Lumber Assessment

SALT Report 2619 – The California State Board of Equalization announced that the following products are no longer subject to the California Lumber Products Assessment effective July 1, 2013:

  • Hardieplank lap siding
  • Hardiepanel vertical siding
  • Hardieshingle siding
  • Hardiesoffit panels
  • Hardietrim
  • Hardiebacker underlayment panels
  • Cemplank siding
  • Cempanel siding
  • Cemtrim
  • Artisan siding
  • Prevail panel and lap siding, and
  • Hardie Reveal panels

The California Lumber Products Assessment went into effect on January 1, 2013. The new law requires that retailers impose a 1% assessment on purchases of lumber products and engineered wood products for use in California, based on the selling price of the products. The Board of Forestry and Fire Protection is responsible for determining the products that are subject to the lumber products assessment.
