California – New Tax Guide for Liquor Store Operators

SALT Report 2599 – The California State Board of Equalization released a new tax guide for guide liquor store operators to help them better understand the tax obligations specific to their industry. The guide is divided into the following three sections:

Industry Topics – This section covers general sales and use tax matters such as; seller’s permits, recording sales, purchases for resale, use tax, inventory controls, taxable and non-taxable sales, cigarette and tobacco products, buy-downs, coupons and rebates, selling prepared foods, and lottery sales.

Getting Started – This section provides resources that will help you understand the implications of making taxable sales such as; registering with the BOE, seller’s permits, filing tax returns, important deadlines, account maintenance, and payment options.

Resources – This section provides links to the information covered in the guide, as well as BOE publications specific to the liquor store industry. In addition, there are links to sales and use tax laws and manuals, web-based seminars, forms, statutory and regulatory information, and access to live help from BOE customer service representatives.
