Washington – Local Tax Rate Updates

SALT Report 2896 – The Washington Department of Revenue released a list of the local sales and use tax rates that will be in effect from October 1, 2013 through December 31, 2013.

Skagitt County

Effective October 1, 2013, the Skagit County Public Transportation Benefit Area boundary is increasing and will include areas around Big Lake.  Because of this, anyone within Unincorporated Skagit County who previously reported to 2900 must now report to location code 2929.

Businesses will be required to collect the new sales tax rate for retail sales and services provided within this area.  If sales tax is not collected, all taxable purchases will be subject to the new use tax rate.

Local Sales and Use Tax Rate Changes

The following municipalities have been annexed, which will result in tax rate changes effective October 1, 2013:

  • Richland,
  • Ridgefield,
  • Coulee City,
  • Langley,
  • Roslyn,
  • Toledo,
  • Tonasket,
  • Sultan,
  • Tumwater,
  • Bellingham, and
  • Tieton

Lastly, the Department announced that due to budget cuts, they would no longer mail paper notices to businesses impacted by a rate change.  Therefore, taxpayers are urged to verify that they are collecting and remitting the appropriate tax rate by using the Departments tax rate lookup tool.
