California – Free Food Industry Seminar in San Diego

SALT Report 2985 – The California State Board of Equalization is offering a free tax seminar for restaurant owners, bar owners, mobile food venders, and anyone who would like to start or expand a business in the food industry.  The seminar will address state and federal tax laws, filing and registration requirements, sales and use tax laws, compliance, employment taxes, and state regulations specific to the food industry.

During the seminar, representatives from the BOE, the Department of Alcohol Beverage Control, and the Employment Development Department will offer presentations that address how to identify taxable items, tip and wage reporting, happy hour rules and pricing below cost, unemployment insurance, posting business licenses, what owners need to provide to new employees, and information specific to food trucks and mobile food vendors.
