California – Palm Desert Food Industry Seminar

SALT Report 3087 – The California State Board of Equalization is offering a free tax seminar for the food industry.  The seminar is designed for restaurant owners, bar owners, mobile food venders, or anyone who would like to start or expand a food related business. The seminar will focus on state and federal tax laws, filing and registration requirements, sales and use tax laws, compliance, employment taxes, and state regulations specific to the food industry.

During the seminar, representatives from the BOE, the Department of Alcohol Beverage Control, and the Employment Development Department will offer presentations that address how to identify taxable items, tip and wage reporting, happy hour rules and pricing below cost, unemployment insurance, coupons, business licenses, operating standards, new employees requirements, and information specific to food trucks and mobile food vendors.
