SALT Report 3099 – The Colorado Department of Revenue issued a reminder that all state issued sales tax licenses will expire on December 31, 2013 and must be renewed by January 1, 2014. The Department advises that the fastest way to renew a sales tax license is by using Electronic Funds Transfer. By using EFT, taxpayers will not need to submit a renewal application form and they will receive their new license immediately.
However, taxpayers who are unable to use EFT should complete the sales tax license renewal form that the Department will mail out in November. This form can either be mailed back to Department along with their payment, or the form can be taken to a Taxpayer Service Center for processing. However, this method will take the Department up to four weeks to process the application and mail out the new license.
The amount a taxpayer will be charged for a renewal license will be determined by when the license is obtained during the two-year period, as Colorado pro-rates the license fee every six months. Therefore, a license for the full two-year period, which begins on January 1, 2014, will be $16 for each business location.
