California – New SCOP Visits Announced; 5,924 Business Owners To Receive Letters

SALT Report 3523 – The State of California’s Statewide Compliance Outreach Program (SCOP) will notify 5,924 businesses of upcoming visits.  “The visits are intended to educate retailers about properly reporting sales and use tax, increase compliance with tax laws, and maintain outreach efforts to assure taxpayers that the state’s tax system is fair and equal for all Californians”.

This is an important program to be aware of due to the potential misunderstandings employees (state and taxpayer) may have about the objectives.  When the SCOP specialist comes to your business, he/she will identify themselves and show identification.  Be prepared to verify the existence of a seller’s permit, fee permits, and any other business licenses/permits that may be required.  Be proactive with your preparation.  SCOP visits are not audits, but they can feel that way.

The selected zip codes are: Elverta (95626), Jamestown (95327), Mather (95655), Mission Hills (91345), Rio Linda (95673), Sacramento (95814), San Bernardino (92408), San Diego (92111), San Fernando (91340), and Walnut Grove (95690).
