“WEST SPRINGFIELD – Customers in the New Hampshire building at the Big E keep trying to give Katie MacLean of Ripple Pottery $26.57 for a $25 piece of pottery.
She has to keep reminding customers that they are in New Hampshire, albeit a small outpost of the Granite State and its ‘Live Free or Die’ ethos is transplanted here on the property of the Eastern States Exposition.
‘This is sovereign territory of New Hampshire,’ MacLean said. ‘We don’t charge sales tax in New Hampshire and we don’t charge sales tax here. I don’t have to worry about making change.’”
