SALT Report 3789 – If you shop in Louisiana next week, you’ll be paying more in state sales tax. Residents and businesses are expected to shell out an estimated $300 million more in just one month. The increase is part of an attempt to balance the state’s troubled budget and consumers will feel the pinch.
“On April 1, the sales tax on motor vehicles goes from the state tax, which is now 4 percent, it goes to 5 percent,” said Bryan Chevrolet-Subaru sales manager Andy Daigle.
State lawmakers recently passed a handful of sales tax increases that will impact residents and businesses. Louisiana will then have the highest average sales tax in the country.
