California – Potential Sales Tax Increase

SALT Report 3812 – “Because tax revenue raised would go to the city’s general fund, Measure B only requires a simple majority to pass. If approved, the tax would bring in approximately $40 million a year in new revenue while raising the sales tax rate to 9 percent from its current 8.75 percent. If voters approve a Santa Clara County half-cent transportation sales tax in November, the city’s rate would reach 9.5 percent, the highest sales tax allowed under California law.”
