SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) – The State House Taxation Committee today defeated a bill that would have dropped the sales tax on food.
Bill sponsor Democratic Representative Ray Ring of Vermillion says South Dakota’s sales taxes are regressive.
Ring says the tax hits the lowest incomes harder than higher incomes. He says the sales tax on food puts that much more burden on residents who are already stressed financially.
