Vermont – Use Tax Awareness Campaign “Amnesty” Ends 10/31/17

SALT Report 3930 – The Vermont Department of Taxes continues its outreach with a come forward program for individuals who may not know what Vermont Use Tax is and when it is due. In reaction to the impending non-collecting retailer, notification rules enacted by Act No. 73 (H.516) the state of Vermont is offering consumers a penalty and interest free “amnesty”.

The Department has recently started a targeted educational letter campaign to increase awareness and allow taxpayers an opportunity to pay use tax they owe. The letters are going out in batches over the next month. They are also offering a penalty and interest free period until Oct. 31 for individuals who want to pay back use tax. This is available to all taxpayers, even if they have not received a letter.
