Supreme Court case could open door on online sales tax … or slam it shut

“A challenge before the U.S. Supreme Court over a South Dakota law taxing online sales could have dramatic implications in Pennsylvania and across the country. Last year, the state collected just more than $200 million in sales tax from online sales, said Jeffrey Johnson, a Department of Revenue spokesman. Those collections come under existing laws that only require companies to collect sales tax if they have a physical presence in the state.”
