The Colorado Department of Revenue would create a simplified sales and use tax computer system that businesses could access to determine point-of-delivery sales taxes under a bill that won approval in a legislative committee Tuesday.
Such a system is needed as the state makes a planned switch from assessing sales and use taxes for online or telephone orders from the point of sale to where products are being delivered.
The change is coming with some controversy because businesses say it’s a difficult and expensive process to determine sales and use tax rates at faraway locations.
