Arizona – Netflix Suing Arizona Over Tax

Media streaming giant Netflix is suing Arizona over a tax placed on its services.

The question, according to the Arizona Capitol Times, revolves around the Arizona Department of Revenue’s decision to place a transaction privilege tax, better known as a sales tax, on the California media company.

Arizona leaders have been looking for ways to tax online industries. This year, House Bill 2702 would allow for taxes on companies that sell physical goods in the state. The bill has the backing of several large retailers as well as industry associations.

Local officials are trying to change state laws as Arizona is one of only eight states that don’t allow for sales taxes on online industries.
