BOISE — Legislation to require online retailers to collect a 6 percent sales tax is one step closer to becoming law after gaining approval from the House Revenue and Taxation Committee.
The bill, sponsored by Majority Leader Mike Moyle, R-Star, is meant to set up the process requiring internet sellers to collect and remit state sales taxes on online retail and e-commerce, much like local retailers. It was introduced to the committee last week, and during a hearing Monday morning, the committee voted to send the matter to the House floor.
