JEFFERSON CITY • A team of state tax experts is in the midst of creating an online map showing sales tax information for every taxing body in Missouri.
But according to data compiled by the Missouri Department of Revenue, 578 of nearly 1,500 taxing bodies have not responded to a request for information from the agency that would allow workers to complete the map.
Those that haven’t, according to the department, initially included officials in St. Peters, home to the sponsor of the law, Republican Rep. Phil Christofanelli.
City spokeswoman Lisa Bedian said the city began gathering information to send to the state after a Post-Dispatch inquiry.
“We want to make sure the correct information gets out there about our city,” Bedian said.
