Pennsylvania – Remote Sales Tax Needs To Be Reported

Now that it’s tax season, I’m sure everyone in Pennsylvania knows that they are to report and pay the sales tax on those taxable purchases made over the internet, toll-free numbers, mail order catalogs, etc., from out of state businesses that did not collect the PA sales tax in 2018.

That’s been the law now for a number of years, but it relied on self-reporting. I wonder what the rate of self-compliance has been.

Anyway, in 2017, our Pennsylvania legislators passed an amendment to the tax code that would require remote sellers to either collect the sales tax or issue a report to the Pennsylvania Department of Revenue that identifies who bought what and when.
