VIRGINIA – Jamestown Seeking Sales-Tax Increase

Jamestown residents will vote again on a proposed 1-cent sales tax increase on the April 2 ballot. A similar issue failed at the polls in November. Mayor Dayna Coonce said a new wastewater treatment plant will increase current sewer rates for the city, and the proposed sales tax increase would offset the new expenses for the treatment system. “We have no clue how much money it will generate, but the money we generate we hope to use to offset the sewer rate,” Coonce said.
