Northport City leaders are watching the City of Tuscaloosa’s growth, and now they want to bring in more business too. Mayor Donna Aaron believed a sales tax may be the answer. Aaron said much of the riverfront and area east of McFarland Boulevard had been neglected for years. “Our goal in the 90’s was to extend what you see here around the curb, all the way back through that area,” Aaron said, “But it just stopped, and it’s not really picked back up.” The riverfront property city leaders wanted to focus on next is on Rice Mine Road. A consultant was working on a proposal for development.
