A Barnwell business owner is facing a criminal charge after allegedly operating without a sales tax license.
Christopher All, 35, owner of Mr. Handy’s on Jackson Street in Barnwell, was arrested March 6 by South Carolina Department of Revenue (SCDOR) agents with the asssistance of the Barnwell County Sheriff’s Office. All is charged with operating a business without a license.
The SCDOR stated in a press release, “The Sales Tax license for Barnwell Mr. Handy LLC was revoked by the SCDOR on June 21, 2018. According to the arrest warrant, the defendant continued to operate the business and make retail sales. On February 22, 2019, the business was open and a retail purchase was made from the business.”
A post on Mr. Handy’s Facebook page calls an online story from The Times & Democrat newspaper in Orangeburg “fake slandering”; however, the story was simply a press release straight from the SCDOR. “Sorry to disappoint everyone, but I was not arrested or put in jail. Thanks to everyone for the calls and informing me of this crazy information. Small town haters trying to start problems,” states the Facebook post.
