Ohio – Amazon’s huge impact On Ohio’s sales tax base: Numbers Behind The News

CLEVELAND, Ohio – While Amazon famously paid no federal income taxes on its $11.2 billion in profits last year, it continues to be a big-time tax collector for Ohio and other states – the result of agreeing to start collecting sales taxes from customers.

Just how big?

Without the revenue from Amazon sales in the state, it would take an increase of Ohio’s statewide sales tax rate from 5.75% to close to 5.95% to make up the difference.
