Sacramento – The California Department of Tax and Fee Administration (CDTFA) announced the selection of Mr. William Hain as the Department’s new Taxpayers’ Rights Advocate and Small Business Liaison.

The CDTFA’s Taxpayers’ Rights Advocate Office assists taxpayers and feepayers that are unable to resolve a matter through normal channels, when they want information regarding procedures, or when there are potential rights violations in an audit or the collection of taxes or fees.

Mr. Hain, a resident of Sacramento, began his career with the CDTFA in 1989 as a tax representative in the Department’s San Mateo office. After moving to Sacramento in 1996 to work as a Tax Compliance Specialist, Mr. Hain went on to become the Principal Compliance Supervisor in the CDTFA’s Sacramento field office from 2011-2013. Mr. Hain then became manager of the Department’s Compliance and Technology Section from 2013-2019.

“Bill is one of our most knowledgeable tax professionals, and his appointment is great news for California’s taxpayers,” said Nick Maduros, CDTFA’s Director. “Bill and the entire team in the Office of the Taxpayers’ Rights Advocate play a vital role in making sure that taxpayers always have a powerful voice inside the Department.”

Mr. Hain earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Chico State University in 1988.
