JACKSON, Mississippi — When the Mississippi Legislature enacted a Sales Tax Holiday in 2009, the only items eligible for the tax break were apparel and shoes — the idea being that, with the holiday scheduled in July, it would give parents shopping for back-to-school wardrobes a break.
For the past 10 years, however, school supplies were not included in the tax holiday, but thanks to a bill pushed through the legislature earlier this year, school supplies will indeed be included among the tax-exempt items when the Sales Tax Holiday takes place July 26-27.
