The city of Batavia and Genesee County have both approved a 40-year sales tax agreement that will help the city with its budget planning and give the county project funding.
City Council members Monday approved the proposed agreement, 8-0. The agreement, pending review by the state comptroller’s office, will go into effect Jan. 1. Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed the legislation for the agreement last week.
Under the agreement, the city will receive no less than 14% of the total sales tax revenue collected countywide. For the city’s sales tax distribution in 2020, 2018 will be used as a base year. The city will get 16% of the total sales tax collected countywide in 2018.
