Wilson County voters approved a sales tax increase tied to public schoolteacher raises that was on the ballot Tuesday.
The vote was just over 58% for the increase to just under 42% against. The total count was 12,560 for the increase to 9,082 against with results still unofficial. There were still 47 provisional ballots outstanding, Wilson County Administrator of Elections Phillip Warren said.
The sales and use tax referendum asked voters to vote on whether to increase the local option sales tax from 9.25 cents to 9.75 cents on $1.
